After more than 8 years of having been sequestered by the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) Ingrid Betancourt an ex-presidential nominee of that country was rescued yesterday along with 14 other men including 3 American citizens. The FARC is a terrorist organization that has been trying to overthrow the government of Colombia for more than a decade now. These people have sequestered and killed many. Yesterday they were rescued in an unprecedented military operation that was clean and peaceful not a single shot was fired. The military forces of Colombia managed to infiltrate the ranking file of the FARC and planned to “transfer” the prisoners to a different location and the plan went on without a hitch.

But perhaps the most impressive thing that happened yesterday is exemplified by the picture on the left. Ingrid a presidential nominee and the entire armed forces of Colombia along with very high ranking officials of the government knelt down and prayed in front of international cameras to thank God for what had happened. When Ingrid took the stage the first words out of her mouth were “First and for most I will like to thank God, my God” and she went on from there.

What an amazing show of faith; wouldn’t it be great if out country was like that? Why is that we have so many problems with God these days why do we get him out of our pledge of Allegiance and our schools and any public places? Why can a third world country like Colombia stand up or rather kneel down proud and praise God all mighty in front of everyone without fear. But in our country, “the land of liberty” we shall dare not do something like that. Specially if you are a high ranking official in the government. I personally believe that if the Christians of this country had 1/2 of the faith the Colombian Catholics have then things would be much better. I believe this is an example of what the bible says in Luke 17:5-6

“The apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith!’ The Lord replied. ‘If you had faith the size of a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”

Because the people of Colombia had faith and because they prayed earnestly they pulled off this amazing miracle. And yes it was a miracle because how else would you explain 2 white helicopters flying into a deadly combat zone and successfully extracting prisoners from the enemy without a single shot or anyone being hurt.

    Negotiation, if not ransoms.

God had nothing to do with it.

It was not a negotiation they just flew in and took them. Without approval or talking to anyone

Doubts about the official version of the rescue surfaced in Switzerland where a public radio station quoted an unidentified source – “close to the events, reliable and tested many times in recent years” – saying $20m was paid to the guerrillas. “It was not a negotiation with the Farc directly but with a person who is very important in that organisation, commander César,” Frederich Blassel, a journalist with the Swiss station, told Colombian radio. The reported suggested that a wife of one of the guards – possibly César – had acted as a go-between after being arrested by the security forces.
